Delivering Real Savings

At Glunz Consulting, we do one thing exceptionally well: we help companies spend less on AWS. Our entire practice is built around a straightforward idea — most organizations are running more infrastructure than they need, paying list price when they shouldn’t be, and carrying blind spots that compound quietly month after month. We find those problems, fix them, and put the savings back in your pocket.

Every engagement is practical and outcome-focused. We do not sell software, we do not take vendor commissions, and we do not pad engagements with work that does not move the needle. What we deliver is a leaner, better-tuned AWS environment — and a bill that reflects it.

Cost and Architecture Assessment

Every client relationship starts here. In a focused one-to-four-week engagement, we conduct a thorough audit of your AWS environment and billing data. We analyze your spend at the service level, identify idle and underutilized resources, and map out where your architecture is costing more than it should.

You walk away with a prioritized savings roadmap — a clear, ranked list of opportunities with estimated dollar impact for each. The assessment pays for itself before we implement a single change.

What’s included:

  • Full AWS bill analysis broken down by service, account, and team
  • Idle resource identification (stopped instances, unattached volumes, orphaned snapshots)
  • Reserved Instance and Savings Plans coverage gap analysis
  • Tagging and cost allocation review
  • Written roadmap with ranked savings opportunities and ROI estimates

Rightsizing and Instance Optimization

This is the core of what we do. Most AWS environments are over-provisioned — instances chosen during a proof of concept that were never revisited, databases sized for peak loads that rarely materialize, storage volumes with far more IOPS than any workload ever demands.

We dig into your usage metrics, identify the gap between what you’re running and what you actually need, and right-size your infrastructure to match reality. We handle EC2, RDS, ElastiCache, OpenSearch, EBS, and more.

We also evaluate whether migrating to AWS Graviton (ARM-based) instances makes sense for your workloads. In most cases, Graviton delivers equivalent or better performance at a meaningfully lower hourly rate.

What’s included:

  • EC2 instance type and family rightsizing based on CPU, memory, and network utilization
  • RDS, ElastiCache, and OpenSearch rightsizing
  • EBS volume type optimization (gp2 to gp3 migrations, IOPS tuning)
  • Graviton migration feasibility assessment and execution
  • Auto Scaling policy review and tuning

Commitment and Pricing Strategy

On-demand pricing is the most expensive way to run AWS. For workloads with predictable baselines, Reserved Instances and Savings Plans can reduce your effective hourly rate by 30–60%. Most organizations leave a significant portion of this savings on the table — either because they’re under-committed, holding the wrong RI types, or simply haven’t revisited their commitment strategy in years.

We model your usage patterns, design a commitment portfolio that fits your growth trajectory, and manage the purchasing process from start to finish.

What’s included:

  • Reserved Instance purchasing strategy by service and term
  • Compute and EC2 Savings Plans design and right-sizing
  • Spot Instance architecture recommendations and interruption-handling guidance
  • RI Marketplace buy and sell recommendations for existing inventory
  • On-demand vs. committed blend modeling with sensitivity analysis

FinOps Program and Governance

Savings are only sustainable when your organization has visibility into what it spends and accountability for how that spend grows. We help you build the internal processes, dashboards, and culture that keep costs under control long after our engagement ends.

This includes setting up cost visibility tooling in AWS Cost Explorer, Grafana, or Amazon QuickSight, configuring budget alerts and anomaly detection, and designing a chargeback or showback model that gives each team ownership of their cloud spend.

What’s included:

  • Cost visibility dashboards tailored to your team structure
  • AWS Budgets, alerts, and anomaly detection configuration
  • Chargeback and showback models by team, product, or environment
  • Monthly cost review cadence and runbooks
  • Engineer training on cost-aware development practices

Managed Optimization Retainer

A one-time engagement delivers a savings spike. A retainer keeps it compounding.

Infrastructure changes constantly — new services are deployed, Savings Plans expire, traffic patterns shift. Our managed retainer puts Glunz in your corner on an ongoing basis: we monitor your environment, catch new cost drift early, manage your commitment portfolio as it rolls over, and execute quick-win optimizations every month.

Clients on retainer typically see savings continue to grow quarter over quarter, rather than eroding back toward the baseline.

What’s included:

  • Monthly savings reviews and quick-win execution
  • Reserved Instance and Savings Plans lifecycle management
  • Cost anomaly triage and investigation
  • Quarterly architecture cost review
  • On-call cost advisory via Slack or your ticketing system

Not Sure Where to Start?

Most clients begin with the Cost and Architecture Assessment. It gives us — and you — a complete picture of your environment and a clear sense of what’s possible. From there, we scope the right combination of services based on your priorities, your team’s capacity, and the size of the opportunity.
